Abstract

The project we did belonged to category 12, and it was a study on non-contaminated dredged materials as alternative reclamation fill. The problem that this project was to address was that as Singapore is a small country, most of our land is gained through land reclamation, however, it has become increasingly difficult to import sand from other countries so as for it to be used as land reclamation fill, but the easily gained marine clay could not be used as it was too soft and too wet to be used as a form of land reclamation fill. Thus, the project required us to search for easy-to-obtain materials that could be mixed with the marine clay to make it harder and dryer at a much faster rate, so that it would be both time-efficient and cost-efficient.
